Feira central de Campina Grande e arredores - Campina Grande' s Central Market and nearby

TEMPO DE FÉRIAS, TEMPO DE DEIXAR AS FILMAGENS, PROJETOS, EDIÇÃO, ESTUDOS, ISSO E AQUILO, ENFIM, O QUE FAÇO O ANO TODO, PARA RELAXAR E RECUPERAR ALGUNS HOBBIES, COMO A FOTOGRAFIA. SEGUEM ALGUMAS IMAGENS QUE REGISTREI HOJE NA FEIRA CENTRAL E CERCANIAS. QUERIA IR TAMBÉM POR CABARÉS, MAS HOJE O CLIMA ESTAVA MEIO TENSO, POIS RESOLVI EVITAR COMPLICAÇÕES (INÚTEIS, POR SINAL).

HOLIDAY TIME, TIME TO LEAVE MY DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTIONS, PROJECTS, EDITING, STUDIES, THIS AND THAT, IN OTHER TERMS, TIME TO LEAVE WHAT I USUALLY DO DURING THE (WHOLE) YEAR, AND RELAX, GETTING BACK TO SOME OF MY FAVOURITE HOBBIES, LIKE PHOTOGRAPHY. BELOW, YOU CAN FIND SOME OF THE PICTURES I'VE JUST TAKEN (THIS AFTERNOON) IN THE CENTRAL MARKET OF CAMPINA GRANDE (BRAZIL). I WANTED TO TAKE SOME PICTURES IN THE WHORE HOUSES, BUT I FELT THAT TODAY THE ATHMOSPHERE WAS QUITE "NERVOUS", SO I DECIDED TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS!

MAS FIM DO ANO, ALÉM DE SER TEMPO PARA RELAXAR, É O MOMENTO DE SE REPENSAR NAS COISAS, NAS CONQUISTAS, NO QUE DEVEMOS MELHORAR (SEMPRE) ETC ETC. AMANHÃ OU SEGUNDA FAREI UM RESUMÃO SOBRE 2012, MAS DESDE JÁ, PARA QUEM SEGUNDA ESTIVER LONGE DOS MONITORES DE COMPUTADOR OU SMART PHONE, APROVEITO PARA DESEJAR MEUS VOTOS PARA UM 2013 RICO EM SAÚDE, PAZ, DISPOSIÇÃO, BOM HUMOR E MUITAS REALIZAÇÕES!

BUT THE END OF THE YEAR, FURTHER THAN BEING TIME TO RELAX, IT'S TIME TO THINK AGAIN ABOUT THE THINGS, THE ACHIEVEMENTS, AND WHAT WE HAVE TO IMPROVE (ALWAYS) ETC ETC. TOMORROW OR MONDAY, I WILL MAKE A BRIEF CONSIDERATION ABOUT 2012, BUT I ACTUALLY TAKE A CHANCE TO WISH A WONDERFUL 2013 TO THOSE WHO, ON MONDAY, WILL EVENTUALLY BE FAR FROM THEIR PC'S MONITOR OR THEIR SMARTPHONE. I WISH YOU A NEW YEAR FULL OF HEALTH, PEACE, GOOD WILL, NICE MOOD AND MANY ACHIEVEMENTS!

ONE LOVE,

RICCARDO MIGLIORE

FELIZ NATAL!

FELIZ NATAL!

Riccardo's new doc "Such a musical heritage" about Benedito do Rojão

Happy and satisfied about the sequence i've shot yesterday with Mr Benedito at the real whorehouse (closed since a few decades) where the finest musicians from Paraíba and other Brazilian states used to performe at the time (during the '40s and the '50s, particularly). Officially, the place was a Casino, and only the city's "elite" used to be guests at the "Eldorado". Politicians, lawyers, doctors and rich farmers, used to be there all the time. In the same road, located in the heart of Campina Grande's main open air market, there were at least four or five music shows at the same time. But the "Eldorado" was the main place. Casino and whorehouse at the time, today is the home of a few drunkards, and yesterday, one of them kindly let us in.

I took these pictures outside the place, approximately at 5pm, after we shot a good video sequence inside and outside the place, with the sweet, deep, lovely light of 4:30pm.

The documentary has the international title "Such a musical heritage", because Mr Benedito was a friend and the pupil of "Jackson do Pandeiro", one of the best Brazilian musicians ever. Jackson used to take young Benedito (14 years old at the time) in the whorehouse, where he used to play with his band, and sometimes let the kid to play a part with them. Benedito do Rojão still produces his music under the influence of Jackson' s forró, rojão, samba, coco, and many other Brazilian musical styles.

The documentary will be ready by February or March 2013. Any info, please feel free to contact me:

Cheers!

My documentary "Master Duduta and friends" was screened in California, US

It's with such a honor that i let my friends and the readers of this blog to know about the screening of my documentary "Master Duduta and friends" (Riccardo Migliore & Thaíse Carvalho, 2011), in Sausalito, California, USA, on October the 2nd, 2012. Actually, it's the first time that one of my productions is exhibited in the US. Thanks to the Tiburon Film Society for the selection and the demonstration of esteem.

Anybody interested in purchasing the documentary for broadcasting, pay-per-view, video-on-demand, or whatever form of exhibition? The film is being distributed worldwide by Elo Company (http://www.elocompany.com/catalogo/catalogo.php?ID=569). Feel free to contact Margot Brandão: margot@elocompany.com or elo3@elocompany.com. Elo's phone number's 0055-11-3023.0173.

My considerations: It's a simple documentary that i've made (with the help of Ms Thaíse Carvalho, journalist/TV reporter) without any grant, sponsorship or whatever kind of co-production. As Glauber Rocha used to say, it's that kind of "an idea in mind and a camera in hand"-like-stuff. Of course, Master Duduta's fine "chorinho" (also called "Brazilian Jazz"), helps the documentary to be appreciated by the audience, so it compensates the lack of financial support in terms of production and post-production.

Master João Ribeiro "Duduta"

Well, to have such a no-budget production selected by a film society like Tiburon's, it's a reason of a great pride, by one side, and of a great gratitude with the TIFF's staff, by the other.

Riccardo Migliore and Thaíse Carvalho, @ the 16th It's all True - International Documentary Film Festival

Finally, i'm definitely satisfied considering the film's career, started in March, 2011, in S.Paulo, Brazil, in the context of a festival where i always wanted to be selected "one day", since i was studying filmmaking in Milan, in 2001! That selection in the "non-competitive" State of Things session of "IT'S ALL TRUE" (10 films only, and along with an IDFA winner documentary) is still a reason of a huge pride or, said in other terms, it was like a good dose of oxigen that is still giving me some kind of relief in the tough road of professional filmmaking. It would be tough anyway, if i could just "fight", or let's say, compete, with equal means. But it's fucking hard while, to let some recomended pricks to appear like the "great ones", others just like me, are systematically kept below-the-water-like, with no sponsorship or stuff like that. Eight years that i'm living in Brazil and i'm still producing on my own, with no sponsorships at all, not even by my university (UFCG).

That reminds me a passage of the Holy Bible, that goes like:

3:13each man's work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man's work is. 3:14If any man's work remains which he built on it, he will receive a reward

(The first Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians 03:13, 03:14).
That's why the fact of "Master Duduta and Friends" being selected and screened in the US by the Tiburon Film Society, is another great pleasure, satisfaction and a reason to go on, keep on doing in this unfair struggle of making my way in the realm of professional documentary making...even after all!
